At a glance

Lunum sought to transform how businesses measure wage quality, access to opportunity, diversity, inclusion and equity, health and well-being activities across their value chains. With a proof of concept (POC) built on Tableau, they faced limitations in flexibility and scalability. Red Thread Innovations partnered with Lunum to evolve its POC into an innovative digital product enabling organizations to track human-centric metrics, educate users on the importance of these metrics, and drive meaningful change.

Challenge

Lunum's initial proof-of-concept had limitations in flexibility and scalability and was unfit for users external to its organization. The data pipeline was manual, labor-intensive and prone to errors, making it difficult to generate timely reports. Additionally, Lunum needed its platform to include educational elements to help users understand equality metrics and make people-driven decisions.

Solution

RTI developed a user-friendly, scalable web platform that automates data integration from multiple sources, enables report interactivity, and includes educational elements to improve user comprehension of the data and its impact. This new solution supports supply chain managers in surfacing insights and making data-driven decisions to foster diversity, equity, and inclusion across their organization’s supply chain.

Result

The revamped platform enabled Lunum to significantly enhance its capabilities, expanding their data analysis from about 50 companies to thousands. Report generation time was reduced from months to days, and data management costs were cut by 100x. This transformation empowered Lunum to scale operations, improve cost-efficiency, and offer a more robust, user-friendly platform. As a result, customers can make more informed decisions, driving real change in their value chains.

User-Centric Discovery

We gained a deep understanding of the challenges and needs within the DEI space through extensive user research and interviews with end users and other stakeholders. Insights from these interviews allowed us to identify key pain points, gather requirements, and identify opportunities, ensuring that the redesigned platform would effectively address user needs.

Educating Users to Enact Meaningful Change

To address the knowledge gap among its user base of supply chain managers, we integrated educational tools throughout the platform. Definitions, glossaries, and key takeaways were added to help users understand DEI metrics, empowering them to make informed decisions.

Interactive Data Visualizations

We implemented clear, interactive data visualizations, including bar graphs, maps, and people graphs. These visual tools make complex data more comprehensible and actionable, helping users to easily surface insights and identify opportunities for improvement within their supply chain practices.

Automation, Scale, Accuracy

Data ingestion for the platform was replaced with an automated system, reducing errors and processing time. This optimization allowed Lunum to scale its data capabilities from handling data from ~50 companies to thousands, improve report processing time from months to ~1 day, and dramatically reduce the cost of data management by 100x. The redesigned platform can now handle large volumes of data with enhanced granularity to surface more precise and actionable insights, enabling businesses to make informed workforce decisions that promote equality and improve their bottom line.

Empowering Supply Chain Managers

By providing a user-friendly interface and actionable insights, the platform empowers its users to foster meaningful conversations with their suppliers. This collaborative approach encourages continuous improvement and alignment with diversity, equality, and inclusion goals to help organizations create sustainable prosperity for their businesses, employees, and communities.
